The job responsibilities for this position of Elementary Principal for Jacksonville School District #117 include supervising the development and improvement of instructional programs, organizing a school climate that promotes adequate discipline, rapport with teachers, and understanding of parents to foster an excellent learning environment. The principal will cooperate with administrative personnel, teaching staff, parents, and students to ensure the best education for all students. Responsibilities also include providing means for teachers to succeed through training and counseling, evaluating substitute teachers, screening candidates for employment, overseeing public relations with parents and the community, and planning the use of school facilities. The principal will maintain safety, manage budgetary procedures, oversee attendance records, comply with state educational requirements, and keep the Superintendent informed of relevant matters. Additional duties include supervising extra-curricular activities, evaluating staff performance, completing reports assigned by the Superintendent, and performing other duties as assigned.

  • Screens candidates and makes employment recommendations to the Director of Human Resources.
  • Oversees a positive public relations program with parents and community.
  • Plans and organizes the use of school facilities in the best interests of the students and the community.
  • Organizes the building for smooth operation in terms of programs, staff functioning, and student involvement.
  • Organizes and administers the school within the approved policies of the Board of Education.
  • Maintains the safety of people involved with the school system and safeguards the buildings and equipment.
  • Accepts responsibility for accounting procedures in the areas of budget, funds, grants, and teacher attendance.
  • Oversees the supervision of attendance records and ensures compliance with state requirements.
  • Complies with all state requirements regarding educational leadership and school improvement planning.
  • Keeps the Superintendent informed of all matters in the building that may affect the Board of Education or the district.
  • Becomes knowledgeable of collective bargaining agreements and employee handbooks.
  • Directs and ensures supervision of all extra-curricular activities.
  • Evaluates the performance of all staff.
  • Completes all reports and special duties assigned by the Superintendent.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Master's Degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in School Administration or related educational discipline.
  • Professional Educator License with a General Administrative Endorsement.
  • Extensive successful teaching experience, preferably in more than one subject area and grade level.
  • Successful experience as an Administrator in the Elementary School level preferred.
  • State certified evaluator of teachers.
  • Proven record of dynamic educational leadership with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with people to facilitate positive growth in students and staff.
  • Demonstrated professionalism.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state education laws and regulations.
  • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy.
  • Solid understanding of elementary curriculum and the Common Core Standards.
  • Ability to motivate, develop, and support a high performing team.
  • Ability to use computer network systems and software applications.
  • Experience in giving professional presentations or conducting training.
  • Knowledge of best practices in administration, program evaluation, and staff supervision.
  • Knowledge of data information systems and data analysis.

  • Starting pay of $80,000 per year, negotiable with finalists.
