Role Overview Destine Prep is seeking a mission-driven Elementary Physical Education (Lead or Associate) Teacher to support the development of students’ physical wellness, teamwork, and lifelong healthy habits.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Valid NYS Teaching License in Physical Education or willingness to pursue certification required.
  • Minimum of one (1) year working with students in a school or youth setting preferred
  • Ability to work occasional evenings for school events
  • Knowledge of high-quality physical education instruction and NYS standards
  • Strong classroom management and student engagement skills
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities
  • High level of organization and attention to detail
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, growth-oriented school environment
  • Strong social-emotional intelligence and professionalism
  • Reflective practitioner who welcomes feedback

  • Preferred: holding or pursuing NYS health education certification.
  • Experience in charter or urban schools preferred but not required

Responsibilities

  • Planning and delivery of engaging, standards-aligned physical education lessons.
  • Promote physical fitness, sportsmanship, teamwork, and healthy lifestyle habits.
  • Provide small group and individual support to students to build motor skills and physical confidence.
  • May be required to support reading room as well as other subject areas as needed as a substitute.
  • Use assessment data to monitor student progress and inform instruction.
  • Provide daily feedback to students on performance, effort, and character.
  • Maintain safe, structured, and joyful PE environments (gymnasium space, outdoor spaces, etc.).
  • Ensure proper supervision of students during classes, transitions, meals, and school activities.
  • Support the organization and care of PE equipment and instructional spaces.
  • Implement consistent behavior expectations aligned with school culture systems.
  • Help manage and reduce risk in all physical education settings.
  • Receive feedback from leadership and peers to strengthen instructional practice and classroom management.
  • Provide in-house substitute coverage as needed.
  • Support the grade team with tutoring, supervision, and schoolwide responsibilities.
  • Assist with school events such as field days, family events, performances, and trips.
  • Collaborate closely with grade level teachers, the Culture Team, and school leadership.
  • Meet regularly with coaches and school leaders to implement feedback.
  • Engage fully in professional development, mentorship, and coaching cycles.
  • Demonstrate a growth mindset and commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Gradually take on increased instructional responsibility throughout the year.
  • Support strong communication with families in partnership with the Lead Teacher.
  • Participate in open houses, conferences, and family events.
  • Serve as a positive ambassador for Destine Prep’s mission and values.
  • Support advisory/homeroom as assigned.
  • Perform clerical and operational duties that advance student learning.
  • Comply with all charter, federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by School Leadership.
