About The Position

The Elementary PE Instructor is to supervise and teach elementary students; ensuring compliance with program requirements; assisting with parent education programs; and coordinating communications with parents.

Requirements

  • All positions require selected candidates to be fingerprinted and successfully pass a criminal background check.
  • High school diploma or a recognized equivalent
  • Per Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), interested applicants must be Highly Qualified to be considered for the position and have completed one of the following: completed at least two years at an accredited higher education institution (minimum 48 semester hours), or obtained an associates (or higher) degree from an accredited higher education institution, or satisfied a rigorous state or local assessment (Parapro Assessment/PRAXIS ETS) with a score of 460 or higher
  • The higher education institution official transcripts, or college diploma, or a copy of the Paraprofessional Assessment must be provided with your application or upon a contingent offer of employment. Unofficial transcripts can be a placeholder until official transcripts are provided
  • Hold or obtain CPR/First Aid Certificate within six months of hire
  • Knowledge of classroom management skills necessary to effectively monitor and supervise Elementary students; operate standard office equipment including using pertinent software applications (e.g., phone, copier, Microsoft Office, PowerSchool etc.)
  • Consistently maintained composure and patience in challenging situations
  • Effective communication skills with both children and adults, including speaking, reading, writing, and understanding English; proficiency in grammar and punctuation

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a K-12 special education or public employment environment
  • Spanish or other language proficiency, including ability to read, write, speak, and understand

Responsibilities

  • Instruct students in the development of physical skills and abilities (e.g., motor skills, exercises, etc.) to meet the requirements of the State Core Physical Education curriculum.
  • Operate physical education equipment and playground activities using standardized methods
  • Monitors individual students in a variety of settings (e.g., classroom, playground activities, etc.) providing a safe and positive learning environment, adhering to safety practices
  • Implement students' learning and behavior plans to meet students' social and behavioral interventions and health care plans and ensure compliance with IEPs.
  • Provide for the individual needs of students (e.g., assistive devices, supportive technology, assistance accessing facilities, etc.) to ensure access to a quality educational program
  • Prepare teaching materials and related reports, document student progress (e.g., attendance, anecdotal records, etc.) and implement lesson plans; apply assessment instruments
  • Performs record-keeping and clerical functions (e.g., scheduling, copying, data recording, etc.) to support the administrator
  • Assess student learning, participation, and skills to provide quality, age-appropriate instruction
  • Manage students’ behavior and conflict, provide a safe and optimal learning environment, and report incidents (e.g., fights, suspected child abuse, neglect, suspected substance abuse, etc.) to ensure compliance with administrative, school policies, state and federal law
  • Supervise academic enrichment activities (e.g., class activities, field trips, visits by guests, etc.) guiding students in learning from those enhancements
  • Collaborate with school personnel and parents to improve the quality of student outcomes, develop solutions, plan curriculum, convey information on student progress, and encourage parental involvement
  • Utilize resources from other work units to meet student needs
  • Assists other personnel as required and needed (e.g., instructors, site administration, paraprofessionals, etc.) ensuring an efficient and effective work environment
  • Independently interpret guidelines; communicate orally and in writing; communicate with diverse groups; maintain confidentiality; set priorities; work as part of a team; work with frequent interruptions; adapt to changing work priorities; be attentive to detail; analyze issues and create action plans for problem solving
  • Participate in various meetings to receive and convey information
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit
