About The Position

The Elementary Paraprofessional - Special Needs position is designed to support students with disabilities by addressing their physical and instructional needs both inside and outside the classroom. The role involves assisting in the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and providing necessary support in self-help, behavior management, and instructional programs under the supervision of a principal and certified teachers.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED certificate.
  • Valid Texas educational aide certificate.
  • Ability to work with children with disabilities.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Two years of experience working with children.

  • Experience in heavy lifting.

Responsibilities

  • Help meet the individual needs of students, including transferring to and from wheelchairs, lifting and positioning, and assisting with personal care such as feeding and hygiene.
  • Manage the behavior of assigned students, including intervening in crisis situations and restraining disruptive or dangerous students as needed.
  • Recognize and adapt to the special medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs of students.
  • Work with assigned students or small groups to develop motor skills and conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher.
  • Assist assigned students throughout the school day, including during lunch, bus, and playground duties.
  • Keep the teacher informed of any special needs or problems of assigned students.
  • Maintain confidentiality and participate in professional development programs and faculty meetings.
