About The Position

The Elementary Paraprofessional II - Special Ed position involves assisting special education students as they receive the services mandated on their Individualized Education Programs (IEP). Paraprofessionals provide instructional support and services under the direct supervision of a fully certified teacher, supporting students with needs such as safety, academics, social, behavioral, and physical, while striving to allow for appropriate levels of student independence. Responsibilities include assisting the teacher with classroom preparation and management, organizing instructional materials, and maintaining documentation.

Requirements

  • Completed 48 semester hours of college coursework, or obtained an associate's (or higher) degree, or have a High School Diploma or GED and pass the Work Keys test with a bronze level or higher.
  • Former experience with children, particularly special needs children, is preferred.
  • Complete all Eight OSDE Paraprofessional Pepper Modules within 120 calendar days of employment.
  • Maintain current CPR/First Aid certification and complete yearly training on Universal Precautions/Bloodborne Pathogens.
  • Complete six hours of district provided professional development each year.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to federal laws, state regulations, and district policy, including maintaining confidentiality regarding students.
  • Follow building site procedures, classroom management rules, and safety practices.
  • Supervise designated students in various educational settings.
  • Assist with implementation of accommodations and modifications in mainstream classrooms.
  • Accompany students to related services therapy sessions when appropriate.
  • Implement behavior modification techniques.
  • Mediate interpersonal conflicts between students.
  • Assist in preparation of classroom activities, materials, and subsequent follow-up/cleanup.
  • Collect data and documentation relative to student performance and behavior.
  • Keep attendance and assist in calculations of data sheets.
  • Work with groups or individuals as instructed by certified staff.
  • Supervise children during assemblies, rehearsals, and performances.
  • Supervise lunch and recess times.
  • Communicate with the teacher regarding relevant observations and insights about students.
  • Assist in teaching and conditioning students for Special Olympics if applicable.
  • Assist students with daily living activities.
  • Assist with pre-vocational skills.
  • Attend in-service training sessions.
  • Maintain required certifications.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Benefits

  • Salary range: $16.13-$18.11 per hour.
