About The Position

Oakwood School is seeking an outstanding full time elementary music teacher for our lower school preschool-5th grade. This position is for the 2026-2027 year beginning in August 2026.

  • A minimum of 2-years of previous experience teaching music at the early childhood and secondary level or equivalent professional experience relevant to working with students
  • Content and pedagogical expertise
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time, sit, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach with arms and hands, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-30 pounds
  • Ability to speak and hear and see near and far
  • Ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to escort students to different classes, to recess and to field trips, etc.
  • Ability to perform repetitive wrist/hand/finger movement to work on computer and/or related office equipment
  • Ability to work at a desk/computer for extended periods of time
  • Occasional to frequent interruptions
  • Ability to adapt to a variety of different environments with varying levels of noise, temperature, physical space, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, supervise, and implement the curriculum as a music education teacher
  • Design, and produce annual music recitals/concerts for kindergarten-5th Grade
  • Work in partnership and collaborate with other teachers, educators, parents, and specialists to develop curriculum, plan trips, and coordinate special projects as related to the position
  • Work and communicate effectively with parents in formal and informal conferences, written reports, newsletters, and other school-approved channels
  • Be a positive and contributing member of the Oakwood community
  • Fulfill campus responsibilities including break supervision, crosswalk duty, or other duties as assigned
  • Participate in Admission events, including Open House, New Student Orientation, and applicant interviews
  • Attend various staff meetings, Back-to-School Nights, and other events as directed
