About The Position

This position is responsible for developing and delivering high quality instruction to Exceptional Children. The position will utilize research-based strategies for instruction and intervention to help students with moderate and severe disabilities achieve greater behavioral and academic success. The position will help students to make progress within IEP goals and objections to reach their highest potential in areas such as intellectual and emotional skills as well as functions of daily living.

Requirements

  • Strictly adheres to the Kentucky Certified Code of Ethics (704 KAR 20:680)
  • Work is performed while standing, sitting and/or walking.
  • Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision, written language, and hearing.
  • Requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations.
  • Requires the ability to lift, carry, push, or pull light objects and students up to 25 lbs.
  • Possession of certification as required by Kentucky law.
  • Insurability by the District's liability insurance carrier.
  • FOR THIS TYPE OF EMPLOYMENT, STATE LAW REQUIRES A NATIONAL AND STATE CRIMINAL HISTORY BACKGROUND CHECK AND A LETTER, PROVIDED BY THE INDIVIDUAL, FROM THE CABINET FOR HEALTH AND FAMILY SERVICES STATING THE APPLICANT HAS NO ADMINISTRATIVE FINDINGS OF CHILD ABUSE OR NEGLECT FOUND THROUGH A BACKGROUND CHECK OF CHILD ABUSE AND NEGLECT RECORDS MAINTAINED BY THE CABINET FOR HEALTH AND FAMILY SERVICES.

Responsibilities

  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
  • Translate lessons plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction.
  • Design and Implement Individualized Education Plans
  • Evaluate pupils’ academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports.
  • Create an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers.
  • Maintain professional competence through activities provided by the district and/or self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Monitor and address, if appropriate, student’s physical, emotional, and intellectual needs on an ongoing informal basis.
  • Demonstrate positive interpersonal relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • Supervise pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
  • Maintain reports and records required by regulations of the Berea Independent Board of Education and Kentucky Revised Statutes.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
