About The Position

The Elementary Lunch/Recess Monitor is responsible for providing assistance and supervision for children during lunch and assigned recess to ensure a positive and safe environment. This position involves interacting with students to maintain order, directing their movement to and from various areas, and ensuring a safe environment at all times. The monitor will respond to emergencies, evaluate student injuries, and report any concerns to the appropriate authorities. The role also includes supervising students during lunch, maintaining a harmonious atmosphere, and assisting with lunchroom clean-up. The position is temporary, lasting for 173 days per year, with a work schedule of 3.5 hours per day.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups, staff, parents, and the general public.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and support documentation.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to use computer and related programs and technologies.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form.

Responsibilities

  • Interact with students to maintain order and provide assistance when needed.
  • Ensure students are orderly and demonstrating appropriate behavior.
  • Direct movement of students to and from the playground, lunchroom, and classrooms in a safe and organized manner.
  • Maintain a safe environment for students at all times and report safety, sanitary, and fire hazards immediately.
  • Respond to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.
  • Evaluate student injuries, determine appropriate course of action, perform minor first aid, and complete required paperwork.
  • Report disciplinary and other concerns to the building administrator and/or classroom teacher.
  • Maintain appropriate certifications and training hours as required.
  • Professionally represent the school and District in interactions with students, staff, parents, and the community.
  • Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
  • Supervise students at lunch and maintain a harmonious atmosphere.
  • Circulate throughout the cafeteria during mealtime and assist students as needed.
  • Work with administration to ensure adequate coverage and supervision on the playground.
  • Assess playground and equipment for safety and security issues.
  • Organize group games and activities as needed.

Benefits

  • Salary range of $15.37 - $16.64 per hour.
  • Temporary contract for 173 days per year.
