About The Position

The Elementary Lunch/Recess Monitor is responsible for providing assistance and supervision for children during lunch and assigned recess to ensure a positive and safe environment. This position involves interacting with students to maintain order, directing their movement to and from various areas, and ensuring a safe environment at all times. The monitor will respond to emergencies, evaluate student injuries, and report any concerns to the appropriate authorities. The role also includes supervising students during lunch, maintaining a harmonious atmosphere, and assisting with lunchroom clean-up. The position is temporary, lasting for 173 days per year, with a commitment of 3.5 hours per day.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups, staff, parents, and the general public.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and support documentation for projects under supervision.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to use computer and computer-related programs and other technologies needed to perform essential job functions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form.

Responsibilities

  • Interacts with students to maintain order and provide assistance when needed.
  • Ensures students are orderly and demonstrating appropriate behavior.
  • Directs movement of students to and from the playground, lunchroom, and classrooms in a safe and organized manner.
  • Maintains a safe environment for students at all times and reports safety, sanitary, and fire hazards immediately to a supervisor.
  • Responds to emergency situations (injured students, fights, etc.) for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.
  • Evaluates student injuries, determines appropriate course of action, performs minor first aid, and completes required paperwork in compliance with District policies.
  • Reports disciplinary and other concerns to the building administrator and/or classroom teacher.
  • Maintains appropriate certifications and training hours as required.
  • Complies with applicable District, local, state, and federal laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Professionally represents the school and District in interactions with students, staff, parents, and the community.
  • Maintains regular attendance and is punctual in reporting to work.
  • Supervises students at lunch and maintains a harmonious atmosphere by encouraging peaceful resolution of conflicts.
  • Circulates throughout the cafeteria during mealtime, helps students by opening packages, and cleans up spills.
  • Assists students through the cafeteria line in an orderly fashion.
  • Works with administration and staff to determine placement of recess monitors throughout the playground.
  • Assesses the playground and equipment for safety and security issues and reports any concerns to a site administrator.
  • Circulates the playground to monitor student behavior and addresses any student misbehavior or safety issues.
  • Assumes responsibility to train students in proper usage of playground equipment.
  • Organizes group games and activities as needed.

Benefits

  • Salary range of $15.37 - $16.64 per hour.
  • Temporary contract for 173 days per year.
