Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GER required

Nice To Haves

  • College degree preferred
  • Massachusetts Special Education certification preferred
  • Experience with ABA methodology preferred

Responsibilities

  • Support instruction and care for elementary students between grades 1-5 in both the inclusion and pull-out setting.
  • Work with and support individuals or small groups of students with a range of abilities, including students with Autism Spectrum Disorder and Down Syndrome.
  • Ability to work with a multi-disciplinary team to support students across the curriculum
  • Ability to shift instruction and provide content specific and behavioral support and interventions
  • Ability to accept and implement directions
  • Ability to be flexible with job assignments as needed
  • Support teachers through classroom assistance to facilitate student connection to curriculum and peer interactions
  • Work collaboratively with other educational staff within the school and district
  • Support the total school program
  • Exhibit proficiency, dependability and punctuality in assigned duties
  • Strive to improve professional competence
  • Display appropriate personal and professional traits that exhibit a positive role model for students
  • Frequent standing
  • Significant amounts of walking
  • Paraprofessionals may be required to escort the student(s) to different classrooms, to recess, and to field trips, in addition to managing the student(s) activity level
  • While toileting and lifting may not be required in every case, a situation may arise where a paraprofessional will be required to do so
