Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent (GED certificate)
• Ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics
• Ability to work well with children
• Ability to communicate effectively with students and staff
• Experience working with children

Nice To Haves

• Associate's degree is preferred, but not required
• Valid Texas educational aide certification is preferred, but not required to be hired.
• Early Childhood experience is preferred

Responsibilities

• Provide practice and repetition of instruction to students under the direction of the teacher; work with individual students or small groups.
• Help maintain a peaceful classroom environment by reminding, redirecting, and guiding students.
• Supervise students throughout the school day, inside and outside of the classroom. This includes lunchroom, playground, PE, and bus duty.
• Share observations of students with classroom teacher to improve student instruction.
• Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and rotating classroom materials to maintain a neat and orderly environment.
• Help with inventory, care, and storage of classroom materials.
• Assume responsibility of the classroom teacher when the teacher is absent. Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers who will assume the role of the paraprofessional.
• Participate in staff development and training to improve job performance.
• Follow district policies and employee handbook.
