About The Position

Des Moines Public Schools is hiring elementary classroom teachers for the Spring 2026 semester. Staff with K-6 classroom endorsements, K-8 reading endorsements, any special education endorsement, or PK-Grade 3 endorsements are encouraged to apply! BASIC FUNCTION: Responsible for planning and delivering a high-quality educational program to meet children’s academic and social-emotional needs.

Requirements

• Valid Iowa teaching license (with relevant elementary endorsement code).
• Knowledge of subject, curriculum, effective teaching methods.
• Demonstrated effectiveness in oral and written communications.

Nice To Haves

• Previous classroom teaching experience.
• Experience in an urban school district.

Responsibilities

• Deliver daily lessons, aligned to state and district standards that meet students’ individual needs and ensure growth.
• Create a culturally inclusive classroom that meets the academic and social emotional needs of students.
• Participate in building and district professional learning communities to plan for instruction, analyze data, and create assessments.
• Monitor student learning on a daily basis.
• Use multiple data points to guide and individualize instruction.
• Communicate with families on a regular basis.
• Participate in professional development.
• Demonstrate consistent progress on meeting the eight Iowa Teaching Standards
• Attend work on a prompt and regular basis.
• Maintain confidentiality.
• Maintain satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with the public, students, and other employees.
• Assist with other duties as may be assigned.
