About The Position

At Tulsa Honor Academy (THA), we are on a mission to equip all scholars with the academic skills, content knowledge, and ethical character required for college graduation and life success. We believe ALL scholars, regardless of race, background, income or ability, can achieve at high levels. We work relentlessly to ensure 100% of scholars are on a path to go to and graduate from a college of their choice, beginning in the fifth grade. Opening our doors in 2015 with 92 fifth grade scholars, THA will grow to serve over 1,400 scholars in grades 5-12 across our three schools in the 2026-2027 academic year. The Elementary Assistant Principal in Training is a member of the Network Leadership Team and Senior Leadership team. This role involves a one-year planning and preparation phase leading into the anticipated opening of the Tulsa Honor Academy Elementary School for the 2027-2028 school year. During this year, the individual will engage in applied practice to observe and become proficient in the responsibilities and skills of a THA school leader overseeing multiple function areas on a small leadership team, with the intention to transition into the founding Elementary Assistant Principal.

Requirements

  • Bilingual (Academic Spanish/English), required
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 2+ years of experience as a teacher and/or school leader is required with a proven track record of student achievement.
  • Flexibility Required: this position includes travel and occasional evening and weekend work in support of events and special projects.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Active Oklahoma Teacher’s certification preferred
  • School leadership experience is preferred
  • Leadership experience in high-performing charter school strongly preferred
  • Prior experience in a school serving a similar population to THA’s is preferred
  • Charter school experience is strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Elementary Principal in Training, CAO, CEO, and/or other members of the THA Senior Leadership Team to support in planning and preparation for the THA Elementary School in alignment with the Tulsa Honor Academy Mission and Vision, adopting best practices as observed in selected national high-performing charter schools.
  • Support in the planning and operational preparations for a projected opening in the Fall of 2027 which may include work with facilities, classroom set-up, designing scholar-facing systems, move-in days, purchases etc.
  • Provide support in the charter expansion approval process such as collecting signatures of support, working with families to speak at the authorizer’s board meeting, and speaking at the public board meeting.
  • Support in recruiting an excellent team of mission-aligned teachers and staff
  • Serve as a recruiter for new scholars; actively engaging prospective families and the larger community in an effort to meet enrollment targets while preparing families and scholars to be successful in our school.
  • Build strong skills in the areas of instructional leadership and coaching, operational leadership, and culture leadership in preparation for leading as Assistant Principal starting in the fall of 2027.
  • Build expertise in Bilingual instruction best practices
  • Support Elementary Principal in training in planning for Spanish curriculum and metrics for Spanish proficiency.
  • Observe, practice and become proficient in the skills of a THA leader in the the following areas: Academic Achievement, Scholar Culture, School Operations, Adult Learning, Leadership of Team, Leadership of Self, First Team
  • Take on intentional assignments at various school sites and/or the network office to gain embedded/applied practice
