About The Position

Boeing has an exciting opportunity for a Electrophysics/Optical Engineer (Lead, Senior or Expert) in Albuquerque, New Mexico. As the Optical Antenna Unit Responsible Engineering Authority (OAU REA), this role is responsible for providing technical oversight and ensuring programmatic execution for a critical sub-contractor providing a high reliability gimbaled telescope for a spaceflight program. The OAU REA will have office locations at both the supplier and the local Boeing facility, but they will primarily perform their responsibilities at the supplier.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (with a focus in Electrical, Mechanical, Optical or Aeronautical), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement
  • At least 5 years of experience developing hardware for military, spaceflight, or other Aerospace applications
  • This position requires the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Top Secret clearance Post Start is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Engineering with a focus in Optical
  • Excellent team leadership skills, especially with regards to influencing without direct authority
  • Experience leading development efforts for space environments, including familiarity with project management and executing to rigorous hardware development requirements
  • Expertise in one or more of the following technical areas: optics, photonics, mechanisms (especially motors and gimbals), electrical design, survivability, reliability, dynamics, and product design

Responsibilities

  • Be the primary interface between the supplier and the Boeing program office
  • Ensure clear and effective bi-directional communication between the supplier and Boeing
  • Represent Boeing and provide cross-functional technical leadership to a technically diverse supplier hardware development team
  • Provide status and technical expertise to support key meetings, including weekly Integrated Program Team (IPT) status meets, monthly program reviews, and execution meetings on an as needed basis to support the system engineering, project management, and hardware teams
  • Provide technical support to the supplier during the development phase of the program to ensure that requirements development, parts procurement, design reviews, technical deliverables, and hardware deliverables meet the program’s standards and timelines
  • Attend relevant supplier technical and programmatic meetings
  • Provide onsite support during the assembly, build and test of the OAU
  • Coordinate support from Boeing experts on an as needed basis
  • Drive execution of major supplier reviews, including design reviews, test readiness reviews, and manufacturing readiness reviews
