About The Position

The Electronics Technician II provides statewide technical support for North Carolina's evidential breath alcohol testing program within the DHHS Division of Public Health, Forensic Tests for Alcohol (FTA) Branch. This position performs complex electronic service, maintenance, calibration support, connectivity management, and records download for evidential breath testing instruments and alcohol screening test devices used by law enforcement and supports the operation of the FTA Electronics Laboratory. Responsibilities include servicing and maintaining lntox EC/IR II instruments and related equipment in accordance with 1OA NCAC 41B, coordinating technical evaluations of instrumentation and interlock devices, managing specialized parts and supply inventory, and delivering in-service technical training to Branch staff on instrumentation and maintenance procedures. The role works under the direction of the Breath Alcohol Testing Technical Specialist, and closely with FTA Field Staff, Forensic Chemist, and Branch management; supports program documentation and fiscal supply needs and requires statewide.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in electronics from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of progressive experience in the repair and maintenance of complex electronic systems including some responsibility for the design of electronic apparatus OR An equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Based on the nature of work performed, may require appropriate licensure by the governing board or commission.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience troubleshooting, repairing, and performing preventive maintenance on complex electronic or analytical instruments using schematics, diagnostic tools, and manufacturer procedures
  • Experience using computer systems for instrument data downloads and performing basic network/connectivity setup and troubleshooting
  • Experience delivering hands-on technical or in-service training on equipment operation and maintenance using technical manuals and procedures
  • Experience servicing and calibrating analytical, evidential, or laboratory electronic instruments
  • Experience working in a regulated or quality-controlled technical environment
