About The Position

Basic Purpose: Positions within this job family are being trained to analyze and implement security systems for the Oklahoma Department of Corrections, including state prison facilities. Employees in this class will be trained to complete tasks associated with a Correctional Security Consultant position and will work alongside them as an apprentice. They will learn to conduct feasibility studies, perform surveys to audio, and to make recommendations to design closed-circuit video surveillance systems, electronic perimeter-intrusion security systems, telecommunication systems, RF radio communications systems, and specialized high-security mogul detention lock and key systems.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of basic electronic telecommunications.
  • Skill in investigating, troubleshooting, and problem-solving.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; to communicate effectively; and to take direction.
  • A willingness to learn and take constructive feedback is required.
  • Possession of a high school diploma acquired from an accredited high school or GED equivalent testing program.
  • Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license at the time of appointment and retain a valid driver’s license while assigned to this job classification.
  • Physical requirements include lifting and dragging 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Subject to standing, sitting, walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, and working in cramped and strained positions for long periods of time to perform job scope.
  • Requires visual acuity and normal visual color discrimination.

Responsibilities

  • Learns and participates in preventive and predictive maintenance.
  • Learns to and participates in maintaining tools, parts, equipment, and materials requirements and inventory for assigned projects.
  • Learns to communicate with facilities, inmates, other divisions, and outside vendors in a professional, courteous manner at all times.
  • Learns to use measuring equipment and hand tools to perform conduit work.
  • Learns and participates in interpreting blueprints and schematics.
  • Learns and participates in the design/installation/repair of security video systems/security perimeter alarm systems/facility intercom systems/detention locking systems/telecommunications systems and other electronic security devices used by the department.
  • Learns and participates in updating work requests and handling other administrative duties.
  • Learns to collaborate with facilities, divisions, agencies, and outside vendors.
  • Demonstrates a continuous effort to improve skill levels.
  • Carries and delivers materials.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
