About The Position

The Electronics Manufacturing Engineer will play a crucial role in supporting the Electronics and Electrical Engineering team at AS&M in Houston, Texas. This position involves direct collaboration with engineers and technicians to enhance manufacturing processes, ensure quality control, and provide technical guidance in various aspects of electronic manufacturing. The engineer will also serve as a technical lead in avionic workmanship and processes, representing the company in interactions with NASA and other stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, preferably in Electrical/Electronic or Mechanical Engineering.
  • 2-5 years of experience in electronics manufacturing or a related area.
  • Experience in electronics manufacturing, including Printed Circuit Board Manufacturing and Assembly.
  • Strong understanding of industry standards (IPC, NASA) relevant to electronics and wiring design.
  • Understanding of printed circuit board and polymeric material selection for space flight applications.
  • In-the-field experience in avionic manufacturing workmanship and processes.
  • Experience in evaluating qualification and acceptance test results on avionic systems.

Nice To Haves

  • 5 or more years of related work experience with materials and processes.
  • 15 or more years of direct work experience in Metallurgy.
  • Knowledge of industry standards for materials specifications and data analysis.
  • Previous experience in material selection for electrical components.
  • Knowledge in contamination control and molecular outgassing testing for aerospace applications.
  • Previous experience working in a precision cleaning laboratory.

Responsibilities

  • Report directly to the Electronics and Electrical Section Manager as part of a group of over 40 other Electronics and Electrical Engineers.
  • Support Engineers and Electrical Technicians directly in the lab as an interface to the workmanship and processes.
  • Monitor, improve, and analyze processes including assembly, functional testing, and production.
  • Provide design support and guidance in various aspects of the Electrical/Electronic manufacturing processes.
  • Serve as technical lead in avionic workmanship and processes at JSC and represent JSC with NASA.
  • Utilize systematic problem solving and data collection to create process maps of manufacturing facets.
  • Provide production floor and assembly support in technical matters.
  • Conceive, investigate, evaluate, and make recommendations for new equipment, tooling, and processes.
  • Lead and/or participate in health, safety, environmental, production, material control, and R&D project teams.
  • Write weekly activity and project reports, develop action plans, and generate work instructions and test procedures.
  • Tailor processes based on customer requirements.
  • Develop detailed procedures for manufacturing processes.
  • Troubleshoot manufacturing issues and provide recommendations.
  • Understand printed circuit board designs and associated manufacturing processes.
  • Work in a laboratory environment, following standard operating procedures.
