About The Position

We have multiple openings for Electronics Engineering Technical Associates to support programs in the National Ignition Facility and Photon Science (NIF&PS) Directorate. You will collaborate with scientists, engineers, and top-level technical personnel to establish scope of work, and to provide advanced electronic controls system engineering and maintenance technical expertise. This position is in the Laser Systems Engineering and Operations (LSEO) Division, within the Engineering Directorate. This position requires full-time on-site presence due to the nature of the work. In this role, you will Provide innovative technical expertise to technician staff with complex electronic systems assembly, testing, and design modifications. Propose, develop, and refine conceptual designs of new and complex electronics and/or systems, implementing and testing prototypes, and presenting in engineering design reviews. Provide input for detailed plans, resources, and schedules for project activities. Develop, author, follow, review, and oversee detailed technical procedures, reports and other documentation, and create work permits. Initiate, prepare, and present at design reviews, meetings, and other briefings in the process of determining concepts and refining designs. Provide engineering solutions to systems operations, analyzing results, and making recommendations for unique and challenging problems that may be complex to highly complex in nature. Collaborate with scientists, engineers, technical personnel, safety personnel, both inside and outside the work group on both an individual and team basis in support of complex program assignments. Point of contact for electronics technologist support requests; coordinating, scheduling, and ensuring completion of day-to-day electronics support activities. Partner with support teams and other departments to conduct cross training to assist in potential reactive maintenance. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electronics Technology, Computer Engineering Technology, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Advanced skills, knowledge, and experience with complex electronic technology and application in an operations environment.
  • Experience with oscilloscopes, multi-meters, and high voltage power supplies.
  • Experience writing and following detailed procedures and reports, contributing to electronic systems operations, analyzing results, and making recommendations.
  • Experience developing, designing, implementing, and testing conceptual designs and/or prototypes of complex electronic systems, and presenting in engineering design reviews.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and experience working both independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team in a schedule-driven environment, including advanced verbal, written, feedback, and presentation communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiar with developing, modifying, and using instrumentation control software (e.g., LabVIEW, Python).
  • Experience with project planning, budgeting, or resource planning.
  • Experience working with classified materials, documentation, and/or experimental data.
