About The Position

The Electronic Technician (Regional) position within the Operations and Logistics Unit of the Department of Corrections is responsible for providing statewide technical repair support for various electronic systems across VADOC installations. This role involves maintaining and supporting systems such as CCTV, perimeter detection, panic alarms, and access control systems, ensuring their confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The technician will also engage in project planning, performance monitoring, and may be required to travel for on-site support, including after-hours emergency call-ins.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of electronics theory and practice related to physical electronic security systems.
  • Working knowledge of TCP/IP networking as it pertains to CCTV and electronic security systems.
  • Experience with access control systems comprised of commercially available components, relay logic, and custom PLC based or hybrid systems.
  • Familiarity with computer systems from BIOS through various Windows OS environments.
  • Experience with diagnostic equipment for troubleshooting, such as DMM, O-Scope, and Network Cable Tester.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for troubleshooting complex electronic system problems.
  • Ability to provide support for end users via phone, email, or in person.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience, training, or knowledge in TCIP networking, Microsoft Windows OS, and network accessible storage devices.
  • Experience with CCTV systems, PLCs, and Access Control.

Responsibilities

  • Provide statewide technical repair support for various electronic systems across VADOC installations.
  • Support CCTV systems, perimeter detection systems, panic alarms, and access control systems.
  • Administer, monitor performance, and provide hardware support for electronic security systems.
  • Engage in project planning and provide overall technical leadership.
  • Maintain confidentiality, integrity, and availability of security systems throughout the agency.
  • Provide support to all VADOC correctional facilities, probation offices, academy units, and Headquarters.
  • Respond to after-hours emergency call-ins as needed.
