About The Position

We are looking for a talented Electronic Systems Engineer – Hardware to join our team specializing in Diagnostics for our location in Columbus, IN. In this role, you will contribute to the development, tuning, validation, and support of diagnostic strategies and electronic hardware that enable reliable engine and system performance. You will work hands‑on with electronic components, collaborate with cross‑functional teams, and apply strong analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills to support high‑quality product outcomes. This position offers the opportunity to apply both technical depth and system‑level thinking while growing expertise in diagnostics, hardware behavior, and product development processes. Daily responsibilities include answering team‑owned component technical profile questions for global customers, tuning assigned diagnostics, and performing testing and reporting to review boards to demonstrate that diagnostic features meet defined performance requirements. You will also conduct hands‑on evaluations of electronic hardware at local test benches using meters, oscilloscopes, and Cummins‑developed software tools to assess behavior, validate functionality, and support diagnostic transparency testing. Success in this role requires strong proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, the ability to communicate and present effectively in team settings, and a commitment to developing advanced problem‑solving capabilities. From a technical perspective, you will need the ability to read and interpret schematics, analyze and model circuits using simulation tools, and understand electrical component datasheets to support diagnostic modeling and transparency assessments. A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering is required for this role. While not mandatory, working knowledge of automotive gas or diesel engine systems is considered a valuable plus, helping accelerate learning and enhance system‑level contribution in diagnostics and electronic hardware performance.
