About The Position

Peraton Labs is seeking an experienced Electronic Systems Build Specialist to support the fabrication and integration of custom printed circuit cards and electronic subsystems for rapid prototyping efforts. This role is a critical part of our engineering and fabrication team, contributing to the development of next-generation unmanned systems, counter-UAS technologies, and mission-critical prototype hardware. The ideal candidate will bring hands-on expertise in circuit board assembly and fabrication, along with experience operating specialized tools and collaborating with engineers to deliver high-quality builds. What You'll Get to Do: Collaborate with electrical and systems engineers to fabricate and integrate custom printed circuit assemblies used in prototype platforms and electronic systems Perform precision soldering and component installation for both surface-mount (SMT) and through-hole components Operate and maintain advanced fabrication equipment including reflow ovens, pick-and-place machines, and PCB milling and imaging systems Interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and Gerber files to execute high-fidelity builds and identify potential design-for-fabrication improvements Support version control, process documentation, and traceability for all builds Contribute to the design and refinement of lab processes and tooling setups for small-run circuit card fabrication

Requirements

  • 5 years experience with BS/BA; 3 years with MS/MA; 0 years with PhD
  • Additional 4 years of experience will be considered in lieu of formal education
  • Active Secret Clearance with ability to obtain Top Secret Clearance
  • US Citizenship
  • Strong understanding of PCB fabrication and printed circuit board assembly (PCBA)
  • Proficiency with soldering tools, rework equipment, and inspection techniques
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, BOMs, and fabrication files
  • Familiarity with ESD-safe lab environments and fabrication best practices
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple build efforts in parallel

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with multilayer boards and prototype PCBA processes
  • Familiarity with pick-and-place machines, reflow ovens, and small-run assembly workflows
  • Prior hands-on use of LPKF PCB milling systems and laser direct imaging and etching machines
  • Experience using circuit board plotters and other prototyping tools
  • Working knowledge of Altium Designer for PCB layout review and SolidWorks for mechanical integration awareness
  • IPC certification (e.g., IPC-A-610, J-STD-001)
  • Experience supporting prototype builds in an R D or defense environment

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with electrical and systems engineers to fabricate and integrate custom printed circuit assemblies used in prototype platforms and electronic systems
  • Perform precision soldering and component installation for both surface-mount (SMT) and through-hole components
