About The Position

Michigan State University (MSU) Libraries invites applications for the position of Electronic Resources Licensing and Coordination Librarian. We are seeking a highly collaborative librarian to coordinate the licensing of electronic resources and help guide electronic resources through acquisitions, access, maintenance, and troubleshooting. The position reports to the Head of Collection Strategies, supervises one staff person, and will serve as the expert on trends and issues in library electronic resource licensing issues. They will help create new workflows and tracking systems to acquire, manage, organize, and analyze information about new and already owned or subscribed electronic resources.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in information or library science from a program accredited by the American Library Association or an equivalent accreditation from an international institution.
  • Experience communicating and working with vendors for library electronic resources.
  • Experience reading library electronic resources licenses.
  • Knowledge of trends and issues in library electronic resource licensing.
  • Demonstrated high attention to detail and accuracy for organizing large amounts of information.
  • Ability to use effective communication and negotiation skills for productive outcomes.
  • Interest in developing workflows and trying new technologies.
  • Preparation and commitment to conducting independent scholarship and service consistent with a library faculty appointment.
  • Strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and an intention to work in and foster a collaborative, respectful culture.
  • Capacity and commitment to engage independently in continuing professional development.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates the licensing of electronic resources under supervision by the Head of Collection Strategies and with all involved parties, including reading all licenses, suggesting licensing language, and reviewing old licenses for needed updates.
  • Negotiates pricing, terms, and licensing language with vendors in a positive and productive manner in collaboration with the Head of Collection Strategies.
  • Develops relationships with vendors and communicates with them about electronic resources content, pricing, access, set up, and troubleshooting.
  • Works with the Accessibility Coordinator to advocate for and prioritize the accessibility of electronic resources.
  • Supervises one staff member for electronic resources maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Collaborates with the Head of Collection Strategies and subject librarians in collections planning and strategic decision making for acquisition or cancellation using data.
  • Helps create policies, documentation, a shared workflow, and a tracking system for the steps of electronic resources acquisitions and licensing.
  • Collaborates with Acquisitions to set up orders for new resources and communicates information on renewals.
  • Updates and maintains accurate holdings of electronic resources in EBSCO HLM and communicates with Cataloging and Metadata Services on electronic resource cataloging issues.
  • Participates in relevant working groups and teams to investigate and implement functionality of the library system FOLIO and associated software for monitoring electronic resources holdings and usage.
  • Attends continuing education and keeps up with trends and issues in library electronic resources licensing.
  • Serves as Electronic Resources Officer for MSU Libraries in the Big Ten Academic Alliance Collection Development Officer-Electronic Resources Officer group.
  • Maintains positive and professional working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including library colleagues, vendors, and MSU Libraries patrons.
