The UC Irvine Libraries physical spaces consist of the Langson Library, the Science Library, the Library Gateway Study Center, and the Grunigen Medical Library. The Technical Services Department provides essential infrastructure that supports UC Irvine Libraries resources in all formats, including print and electronic resources. Our services include licensing, acquisitions, cataloging and metadata, processing, and repairs. We maintain the UC Irvine catalog and work to ensure resource access and discoverability. Technical Services includes the following five units: Accounting and Print Monograph Acquisitions; Electronic Resources Acquisitions; Catalog Maintenance, Physical Processing & Electronic Resources Cataloging; Physical Resources Cataloging & Metadata; and Serial Acquisitions & Binding/Book Repairs. Under the direction of the Electronic Resources Acquisitions Librarian, independently applies broad understanding of electronic resources to establish and maintain access ; track and resolve access problems; communicate with vendors, publishers and library staff; maintain electronic resources data in Ex Libris Alma and Primo, and vendor databases; tabulate and report statistics; and perform special project assignments under general supervision. Technical leader with a high degree of knowledge in the overall field and recognized expertise in specific areas; problem-solving frequently requires analysis of unique issues / problems without precedent and / or structure.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Electronic Resources management.
  • Working knowledge of an Integrated Library System.
  • Working knowledge of electronic resources functions, practices, and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Excel, Outlook, and Word.
  • Ability to track and generate online statistical data.
  • Excellent knowledge of the bibliographic characteristics of monographs & serials in all formats.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships and interact diplomatically with a variety of people and situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform detailed tasks with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to work at a computer workstation for extended periods of time.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze complex problems and make independent decisions and judgments.
  • Skill to adapt to change and balance work priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent keyboarding and proofreading skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a good attendance record.
  • General knowledge of library practices and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand, develop, update and disseminate technical procedures.
  • Ability to work creatively, collaboratively, and effectively and to support inclusiveness within UC Irvine Libraries and the campus.
  • Working knowledge of OCLC.
  • 3-5 years experience working in a public or research library.
