About The Position

The Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems Lab Support position at the University of Hawaii Cancer Center involves developing interventions to address electronic nicotine use among rural youth in Hawaii. The role includes collaboration with research teams, data collection, analysis, and community engagement, with a focus on public health and education.

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university in Education, Social Work, Public Health, Social or Health Behavioral Science, or related field.
  • One to three (1-3) years of experience performing statistical analysis of datasets and writing manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
  • Experience with public health, public administration, public policy, social work, psychology, population-based research, human subject research, community outreach or related projects.
  • Knowledge of study designs and statistical analysis techniques for cross sectional analyses and prevention intervention studies.
  • Working knowledge of computers and database, spreadsheet, and word processing programs including Microsoft Windows, Excel, and Word.
  • Familiarity with Google Suite programs, including Google Sites, Sheets, and Forms.
  • Ability to think critically and creatively.
  • Excellent manuscript and grant writing skills and strong communication skills.
  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively in a team environment.
  • Strong organizational skills, attentiveness to details, and dependability.

Responsibilities

  • Develop classroom-based interventions and a Teacher Implementation Website to address electronic nicotine use among rural Hawaii youth.
  • Design materials to share project findings with the local community.
  • Collaborate with internal research teams to achieve project goals.
  • Coordinate data collection across public schools on Hawai?i Island.
  • Assist the Principal Investigator (PI) with data analysis, interpretation, and writing research papers for journal submissions.
  • Monitor the review process and proofread materials.
  • Coordinate with the research team and Hawaii Island public schools to conduct on-site data collection.
  • Work with School-Based Research Liaisons to gather data through focus groups, interviews, and surveys.
  • Travel to Hilo for data collection and video production as needed.

  • Part-time employment with a monthly salary of $1,004.12 at 30% FTE.
