APM Terminals PURPOSE: The Smart Port Engineer contributes as part of a team responsible for the design, execution, and validation of advanced terminal systems. This role involves digital solution design, system integration, and continuous improvement to support evolving operational requirements. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Oversee the daily functions and define new strategy for the technology components (PLC, Remote I/O, Sensors, VFD, HMIs) that make up the automated terminal operation. Review and understand control system design and process requirements to develop software functional specifications for optimization/continuous improvement projects. Perform system integration, software test planning, testing, and commissioning. Oversee and at times, engage in configuration, installation and maintenance of automation software, automation hardware, infrastructure and communication services such as positioning systems, location and RFID systems, bridges, switches, cabling and equipment automation firmware. Interface with Project, Ops, and M&R to troubleshoot operational incidents, develop requirements, and support documentation and procedure generation efforts. Interface with mechanics and provide guidance for hardware fixes Ensure proper integration of vendor engineering solutions into the overall terminal engineering documentation. Implementation and Management of automation changes in an operating facility. Promote good working relationships between internal and external stakeholders, including other project teams, terminal departments, vendors, union labor officials, and transient workforce. Perform other position related duties as specified by management.
