PDF Solutions is seeking an Electron Optics Engineer to drive the R&D, manufacturing and delivery of state-of-the-art eProbe electron beam inspection systems used in semiconductor wafer manufacturing facilities for yield ramp and manufacturing control. The electron optics engineer will be responsible for designing, simulating and optimizing electron optics systems and will work closely with the internal engineering team towards the delivery of electron beam columns for the next generation of eProbe systems. A successful candidate will be a highly motivated and self-driven team player with strong analytical skills and possess the drive to deliver high quality results in a dynamic, multi-disciplined and highly productive environment.

Requirements

  • PhD in physics, electrical/mechanical engineering, materials science, or a related field
  • Solid fundamentals in electron optics including knowledge of column design, electron sources, lenses, deflector systems and tolerancing of optical systems
  • Proficiency with electron optics simulation software (eg. MEBS, SIMION)
  • Experience running finite element software packages (e.g. COMSOL, OPERA)
  • Proficiency with a scripting language (e.g. Python, Matlab)
  • Experience with CAD software (e.g. SOLIDWORKS)
  • Hands-on experience operating and calibrating electron microscopy systems
  • Strong analytical and data analysis skills, and a systematic approach to problem solving
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with electron beam inspection or lithography systems in the semiconductor industry
  • Experience with vacuum systems
  • Experience with high voltage power supplies and electron beam electronics
  • Knowledge of surface science and experience running simulations of electron-material interactions
  • Familiarity with semiconductor capital equipment

Responsibilities

  • Run electron optics simulations of existing column designs under a range of operating conditions
  • Design and simulate column sub-components
  • Develop software tools to automate simulations and reduce the time to results
  • Use electron optics simulation results to optimize system performance and design column improvements
  • Collaborate with electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, systems engineering and manufacturing groups to integrate new designs into working systems
  • Hands-on work to operate electron beam columns
  • Design and execute test plans to characterize the system performance, validate simulation results and refine modeling parameters
  • Present and report findings to internal collaborators
