About The Position

The Electron Microscopy Technologist reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards. The EM tech is primarily responsible for the collection and adequacy assessment of tissue for Electron Microscopy evaluation, and for the fixation, processing, sectioning, staining, and performance of EM. The acquisition of photographic images and the management of tissue transportation for other lab testing areas are also critical.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in Biological Sciences with at least one course in electron microscopy.

  • HT (ASCP)
  • Experience and coursework in histological techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Attend tissue collection (primarily renal biopsies) procedures and perform adequacy assessment of the collected tissue.
  • Using a dissecting microscope, perform a gross analysis of the tissue and communicate adequacy to the surgeon or fellow.
  • Manage proper handling of the tissue and transport to other areas of Pathology for testing.
  • Fixation, processing, sectioning, staining, and mounting of specimens for analysis in the Electron Microscope.
  • Examine tissue in the EM and acquire photographic images.
  • Perform and document quality assurance and maintain records as required by the laboratory and accrediting agencies (CAP, JCAHO, etc).
  • Operate and maintain equipment and service records.
  • Participate in evaluating new equipment.
