Rocky Point Laboratory- Gross Room The incumbent is responsible for the accurate and timely gross examination and dictation of specimens. Cassette printing, bottle identification, case number designation. Receive and correlate paperwork with specimens received. Work and communicate with personnel from submitting accounts as well as courier. Resolves discrepancies working with others in order to expedite cases. Disposes of tissue from completed surgical specimens. The individual in this position will be expected to display a positive attitude to promote a good working environment and positive morale for the rest of the staff in this area on a daily basis. Individual may be involved with training new employees and/or rotating students. Electron Microscopy - Under general supervision, perform routine and advanced transmission electron microscope laboratory procedures related to the processing of specimens used for clinical purposes. Prepare specimens for observation under an electron microscope using specialized techniques. Maintain diamond knives, and cut and trim tissue to microscope dimension using an ultramicrotome. Perform specialized photographic techniques to capture and produce digital images. Manage the digital archives of images and make images available electronically to users. Staining - Perform specialized techniques such as immunofluorescence and immunochemistry related to the processing of specimens for clinical purposes. Develop specimen preparation techniques under general supervision when necessary. Specialized Techniques - Perform processing and specialized techniques on muscle, nerve, and medical kidney specimens. Perform staining, IHC & Immunofluorescence, on these specimens. Complete accurate and timely gross examination and dictation of anatomic pathology specimens. Cassette printing, bottle identification, and case number designation. Maintenance - Maintain electron microscopes including basic troubleshooting. Maintain ancillary equipment including ultramicrotome, cryostat, fume hood, and digital camera. Assist manager with inventory control of chemicals and other supplies needed for diagnostic electron microscopy as well as immunofluorescence and immunochemistry techniques. Cleans laboratory equipment and spaces. This may include bench-tops, and storage areas. Records and Safety - Maintain records and files of specimens prepared and photographed. Perform laboratory safety procedures and ensures compliance of quality control standards. Assists with administrative tasks as needed such as computer assistance with manuals, MSDS and chemical inventory. Oversees inventory of the lab and place all orders as needed. Keeps chemical and biohazard elements properly maintained stored and disposed of.

  • Communication skills that will allow the prospective employee to interact with UF physicians, client physicians, and other health professionals in a professional manner.
  • Ability to work in a potentially stressful environment.
  • Ability to quickly learn various aspects of Lab Operations.
  • Knowledge of Medical terminology.
  • Prior experience in a gross room or histology lab.
  • Experience with Epic or other LIS.
