About The Position

Electrified Aircraft Propulsion Controls Engineer Aerospace Engineer III NASA Glenn Research Center Brook Park, Ohio HX5 is an award-winning provider of engineering, research and development, and technical services to clients such as NASA and the Department of Defense. Founded in 2004, HX5 is a fast-growing veteran- and woman-owned company with locations nationwide. HX5 is currently seeking a mid-level aerospace engineer to join our team in Brook Park, Ohio in support of the GEARS contract at NASA Glenn Research Center. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The selected candidate will support the controls development, modeling, and simulation of propulsion, power, and thermal technologies for electrified aircraft propulsion (EAP) systems. Primary objectives are in development, evaluation, and testing of advanced control algorithms to improve the efficiency, operability, and safety of EAP systems. The candidate should be knowledgeable about advanced control methods, with an emphasis on multi-variable, optimal, and model predictive algorithms. Primarily, the selected candidate will be responsible for the following: Develop advanced control methodologies for EAP applications Support hardware-in-the-loop testing and evaluation of advanced control algorithms Support data processing and perform trade studies of EAP applications This effort is monitored by the Intelligent Control and Autonomy Branch at NASA GRC, which conducts research and development of technologies to increase the level of intelligence and autonomy in complex aerospace space systems with a strong focus on aero-space propulsion systems.

Requirements

  • Proficient in Matlab and Simulink
  • Experience or knowledge of aerospace propulsion systems
  • Experience or knowledge of advanced control methods
  • Experience in classical control methods
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly motivated and able to work independently
  • Committed to successful collaboration with the NASA team and partners
  • Completed at least a bachelor of science degree in a STEM-related major, from an accredited program, with the following education and experience: Bachelor’s degree with 5 to 10 years of experience Master’s degree with 3 to 6 years of experience Ph.D. with 0 to 3 years of experience
  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Permanent Residency is a requirement for this position.
  • Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.
