About the position

The Metropolitan Council's Environmental Services (MCES) Division has five Electrician vacancies. Two are regular, full-time positions and three are long-term temporary positions (up to two years). As assigned, this position will require travel between various MCES facilities within the Twin Cities metro area. Join an award-winning wastewater industry leader in protecting our environment! Responsibilities

  • Performs electrical work related to the system process.
  • Maintains personnel protection system for fire, hydrogen sulfide, and hydrocarbon alarm systems.
  • Engineers, designs, and lays out electrical/electronic control circuits.
  • Performs electrical construction work. Verifies proper operation with collection/plant system processes.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs a wide variety of electrical/electronic equipment including PLC, VFD, MCC, telemetry, and SCADA systems.
  • Performs calibration and verification on various process instrumentation, metering, and recording devices (pressure, level, flow, weight, etc.).
  • Checks and maintains emergency service equipment.
  • Coordinates inventory needs and stocking issues with procurement and warehouse staff.
  • Completes job reports on labor and material.
  • Works with maintenance management systems (WAM), process control systems (Cimplicity/Wonderware), and other computer system software programs.
  • Maintains monitoring systems at lift stations, meter sites, river quality monitoring, regulator, and rain gauge sites.
  • Diagnoses and repairs integration devices between field devices and process computers.
  • Provides welding to support the electrical group.
  • Tests, installs and repairs sacrificial and rectifier-type cathodic protection systems.
  • Performs other related duties.

Requirements

  • Completion of a registered apprenticeship electrical program through the State of Minnesota AND three (3) years of journey-level experience that includes instrumentation, controls, and programmable logic controller programming (industrial experience).
  • OR Graduate of a two (2) year vocational/technical program in Electrical Construction and Maintenance AND five (5) years journey-level experience that includes instrumentation, controls, and programmable logic controller programming (industrial experience).
  • OR Completion of a registered apprenticeship electrical program through the State of Minnesota AND one (1) year of journey-level experience that includes instrumentation, controls, and programmable logic controller programming (industrial experience) AND one (1) year of experience in maintenance in a wastewater plant/collection facility that includes instrument calibration, troubleshooting of motor controls/equipment control circuits, and programmable logic controller programming.
  • Licenses/Certifications/Registration: State of Minnesota Class 'A' Journeyman license OR Master Electrician license; and valid driver's license WITH acceptable driving record.
