About The Position

5 Star Electric, LLC (5 Star) is a premier full-service provider of electrical construction, maintenance, and repair services with offices in Western Kentucky and Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas. 5 Star specializes in Distribution and Transmission Power Line work, Substation, Industrial, Commercial, Streetlighting, and Fiber installations. This is an entry-level position. The Electrician Trainee supports the Electrician in the maintenance, operation, and repair of electrical systems. This role involves assisting with tasks that require less technical skill, including supplying, holding, and using tools and materials as needed. As the Electrician Trainee develops in the role, they will be entrusted with greater responsibilities and more complex assignments. This position reports directly to the Electrician.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of houses, building or other structures, such as highways and roads.
  • Knowledge of Principles and processes for providing customer and personal service
  • Meeting Quality Standards for services ad evaluation of customer satisfaction
  • Knowledge of Design techniques, tools and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings and models.
  • Knowledge and prediction of physical principles, laws, their interrelationships and applicants to understanding fluid, material and atmospheric dynamics and mechanical, electrical, atomic, and sub-atomic structures and processes.
  • Understanding of the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Use of logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Use of Mathematics to solve problems
  • One to Two (1-2) years of relevant Experience or equivalent hours
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid State of Residence Driver License is required.
  • Must have a Class A CDL
  • Candidates must pass criminal and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) background checks and pass a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Must complete OSHA 10hr Safety Training Program within 60 Days
  • Successful completion of appropriate knowledge and skills examinations.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with the specific industry of operation is also beneficial.
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office (Power Point, Word, Excel, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Researching and identifying potential licensing opportunities
  • Assisting with the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and equipment
  • Cleaning and maintaining work areas, tools, and equipment
  • Supporting the Electrician in day-to-day duties by preparing materials and ensuring the work site is organized and safe
  • Performing basic tasks under direct supervision to ensure efficient operation of electrical systems
  • Gaining experience and progressing toward increased responsibility and task independence
  • Measure, cut, and bend wire and conduit, using measuring instruments and hand tools.
  • Trace out short circuits in wiring, using test meter.
  • Strip insulation from wire ends, using wire stripping pliers, and attach wires to terminals for subsequent soldering
  • Examine electrical units for loose connections and broken insulation and tighten connections, using hand tools.
  • Construct controllers and panels, using power drills, drill presses, taps, saws and punches.
  • Drill holes and pull or push wiring through openings, using hand and power tools.
  • Clean work area and wash parts.
  • Maintain tools, vehicles, and equipment and keep parts and supplies in order.
  • Transport tools, materials, equipment, and supplies to work site by hand, handtruck, or heavy, motorized truck.
  • Install copper-clad ground rods, using a manual post driver.
  • Thread conduit ends, connect couplings, and fabricate and secure conduit support brackets, using hand tools.
  • Disassemble defective electrical equipment, replace defective or worn parts, and reassemble equipment, using hand tools.
  • Erect electrical system components and barricades, and rig scaffolds, hoists, and shoring.
  • Perform semi-skilled and unskilled laboring duties related to the installation, maintenance and repair of a wide variety of electrical systems and equipment.
  • Dig trenches or holes for installation of conduit or supports.
  • Raise, lower, or position equipment, tools, and materials, using hoist, hand line, or block and tackle.
  • Break up concrete, using air hammer, to facilitate installation, construction, or repair of equipment.
  • Clean work sites.
  • Dig holes or trenches.
  • Move construction or extraction materials to locations where they are needed.
  • Remove debris or vegetation from work sites
  • Performing routine maintenance on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed.
  • Determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job.
  • Installing equipment, machines, wiring, or programs to meet specifications.
  • Watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.
  • Controlling operations of equipment or systems.
  • Analyzing needs and product requirements to create a design.
  • Writing computer programs for various purposes.
  • Conducting tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance.
  • Repairing machines or systems using the needed tools.
  • Generating or adapting equipment and technology to serve user needs.
  • Determining causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about it.
  • Other duties as assigned.
