About The Position

Overview GRADE : Non-Exempt; Regular Full-time LOCATION : Eglin AFB, FL - On Site ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Work involves most of the following: installing or repairing any of a variety of electrical equipment such as generators, transformers, switchboards, controllers, circuit breakers, motors, heating units, conduit systems, or other transmission equipment; working from blueprints, drawings, layouts, or other specifications, locating and diagnosing trouble in the electrical system or equipment, working standard computations relating to load requirements of wiring or electrical equipment, and using a variety of electrician's hand tools and measuring and testing instruments. Additional skills require sufficient knowledge to adjust gear trains, cams, levers, etc. In general, the work of the maintenance electrician requires rounded training and experience usually acquired through a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience. GENERAL DUTIES: This position is within the Support Department and will require overtime and shift work. The position will report to Range Services Supervisor and will primarily perform work assignments as part of an Electrical crew. Daily work is performed with the direction of the Lead Electrician and reports to Eglin AFB, FL, Main Base. An ideal Electrician candidate will perform a variety of electrical trade functions such as the installation, maintenance, or repair of equipment for the generation, distribution, or utilization of electrical energy. In-depth knowledge of the principles of electricity, shop practices, and technique including electrical circuitry and schematics is required. Must possess the ability to interpret and work from blueprints, drawings, manuals, handbooks, and technical specifications. Job functions may also include cross utilization on task as Direct Mission support, controlling range test areas, working with other crews within Range Services, such as Welders, Heavy Equipment Operators, Carpenters and Tower climbers. OTHER DUTIES: Works under general supervision and may be required to lead crew and direct the activities of lesser skilled electricians. May be required to handle hazardous materials.

Requirements

  • Must have graduated from a vocational school/military technical school, electrical training program, or a certified electrician apprenticeship program and have at least three years practical experience in electrical repair and installations with a minimum of two years' experience in electrical installation/construction such as conduit bending, threading and fitting, wire pulling and terminating.
  • Must have familiarity with the National Electrical Code.
  • Candidates must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • All selected candidates must undergo and successfully pass a background investigation and drug test as a condition of placement into this position.
  • May be required to obtain and maintain a Class "A" or "B" CDL driver's license in order to operate the Line Truck or Bucket truck.
  • Applicants must currently hold or be able to obtain and maintain the proper US DoD issued security clearance, which requires US Citizenship.
  • Security clearance eligibility may be discussed during the interview phase.
  • Employment and start date are contingent upon the candidate receiving the required US DoD issued interim security clearance.
