About The Position

Facilities Management (FM) provides maintenance, grounds, and custodial services to the entire campus. FM serves as a partner within the zone structure for the Contract Colleges (CC), Endowed (EN), and Student and Campus Life (SCL) zones. As a key steward of the University’s facilities, FM is responsible for facility assessments, skilled trades, general construction, building care, grounds, recycling, asbestos, and the management of planned, corrective, and preventive maintenance. Facilities and Campus Services employees are required to attend staff development trainings and participate in the performance evaluation process. You will work in a team environment performing a full range of journey person level electrical work across the Cornell campus. Work will include installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, modification and repair of electrical apparatuses and building systems associated with the electrical trade. This position will also include reading and interpreting shop/field drawings and other project documents, as well as maintaining necessary hand tools and equipment. This is an Endowed, union position within the BTC. The starting pay rate is $41.72/hour. Requirements

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 5 years of experience in the electrical or related field.
  • Must belong to the local Electricians Union (IBEW) or join within 30 days of employment.
  • Must have a strong Knowledge of the electrical trade, electrical codes, and the ability to read and interpret construction drawings, maintenance and installation manuals.
  • Must be proficient in the use of electrical testing equipment.
  • Must have and maintain a valid US drivers license; may be required to operate a motor vehicle (Your own vehicle or Cornell owned) to travel to and from job sites.
  • Required to inspect and work in crawl spaces, attics, laboratories, ventilation equipment, mechanical spaces, sub basements, confined space and other isolated areas. Access to these areas may require the use of ladders, scaffold or aerial lifts in excess of 100’. The ability to ascend and descend heights, have full mobility and agility is a must. Risk exposure to asbestos, toxic vapors, heat, cold, height and accumulated dirt.
  • Use of employer provided safety equipment, which may include a respirator is required.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs
  • Must be available to work overtime as duties require, including weekends. Possibility of shift work.
