About The Position

ASRC Federal, a leading government contractor and an Alaska Native owned corporation, is seeking a full-time Electrician to support government customer programs at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas. This on-site position involves installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical systems, associated fixtures, controls, and equipment operating at 50 volts or higher. The role also includes working with high voltage generating, controlling, and distributing systems, as well as maintaining and repairing airfield lighting systems. The work generally requires comprehensive training and experience, typically acquired through a formal apprenticeship or equivalent.

Requirements

Must have a minimum of (4) years of electrical experience.
Two (2) years of which industrial components were repaired and working with high voltage.
Journeyman Electrician License or higher required with work in Civil Engineering/or equivalent military experience.
Must have knowledge of electrical equipment, theory of instruments, technical practices, including troubleshooting and the ability to use electrical drawings.
Must be customer oriented.
Should have knowledge of Air Force Base Operations and Civil Engineering.
Must possess analytical abilities necessary to handle extremely complex administrative, organizational, and contract matters.
Must demonstrate communicative and organizational skills necessary to effectively work in site operations.
Valid state driver’s license Class B or higher CDL (must be able to obtain in first 90 days of employment).
Must deal with the customer and company employees in a courteous, professional, and effective manner.
Must have a basic knowledge of computers—able to input and extract data.
Must be a US or Permanent Resident due to contract requirements because we are on a military installation.

Nice To Haves

At least three years’ experience working in a military environment and familiarity with US Air Force Base Operations guidance, rules, and regulations.

Responsibilities

Install, maintains, troubleshoot, and repairs electrical systems and associated fixtures, controls and equipment 50 volts or higher.
Install, troubleshoots, test, repairs, and maintains high voltage generating, controlling, and distributing systems in powerhouses, substations, and underground and overhead power lines.
Maintains/repairs airfield lighting systems.
Installs, modifies, connects, inspects, troubleshoots, and repairs overhead and underground street lighting equipment.
Sets up and aligns poles, erects cross arms and fixtures, strings conductors, installs transformers, and services with connections.
Repairs primary distribution equipment such as cracked insulators, broken pins, wires, short circuits, loose connection.
Check condition of transformers, switches and cables.
Test insulating oil of transformers and oil switches for breakdown and contamination.
Installs transformers on hangers, lighting arresters, switches and fuses.
Troubleshoots electrical systems to locate shorts, opens, grounds, crosses, cable breaks.
Selects and installs insulators, joins line conductors by splicing.
Strings wires, pulls wires to proper tension, and sag.
Installs and replaces arms and cross arms and attach pole guys.
Use testing instruments such as voltmeters, ammeter, ground resistance testers, insulation tester, phase tester, and recording devices to test insulators, transformers and circuit vaults.
Installing, modifying and testing electrical lines, circuits, systems, fixtures, controls and equipment 50 volts or higher, amperage, phase and frequency requirements.
Install, maintain, and repair all types of grounding systems and lighting protection systems.
Works from building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, and electrical maintenance and repair manuals to plan and layout routing, placement, type, size gauge, balance, load, continuity, and safe operation of electrical lines, circuits, systems, equipment, and controls.
Work on wide variety of equipment, including motors, motor control devices, speed control units, and automatic control equipment.
Pull insulated wires or cables through the conduit to complete circuits between boxes and manholes.
Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components.
Join wires in boxes with various specially designed connectors.
Perform preventive/recurring maintenance.
Advise management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous.
Interprets and applies the National Electric Code, local codes, building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and engineering drawings, and uses trade formulas to calculate common properties. e.g. voltage drops, and current capacity in series and parallel circuits, resistance, inductance, capacitance, power factors, current flow, and temperature and length in single and multiple raceways, conduit, gutters and cable trays.
Makes necessary repairs as quickly as possible in order to minimize inconvenience.
Work with engineers, engineering technicians, or industrial machinery installation, repair, and maintenance workers.
Other assigned duties as needed to support the customer.
