About The Position

This position is assigned responsibilities involving the layout, installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems, fixtures and related equipment in a state agency or facility.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the maintenance and minor repair of electrical fixtures and equipment; of the safety precautions necessary in the electrical trade; of local, state and national electric underwriters’ code for electrical installation; and of electrical systems used in new construction.
  • Ability is required to perform minor maintenance and repair of electrical apparatus; to keep records and make reports; to install maintain, and repair electrical fixtures; to make preliminary sketches and develop bills of materials for electrical work; and to direct non-licensed personnel.
  • Ability is required to analyze maintenance needs; to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Licensed as a Journeyman Electrician with the Oklahoma Construction Industries Board.
  • Able to lift/carry a minimum of 40 pounds.
  • Able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Able to climb ladders and stairs.
  • Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license

Responsibilities

  • Maintains and repairs electrical equipment in existing buildings; makes inspections and diagnoses electrical troubles; assigns and oversees work details; performs complicated installations, such as repair of laboratory equipment, including centrifuges, sterilizers, stills and medical equipment; performs electrical work on air-conditioning, motor generator units and compressors.
  • Maintains and repairs high voltage distributor transformers and makes internal connections to adjust to the required voltage; installs, splices and insulates high voltage underground and overhead cables; locates and repairs trouble in starter and motor windings, fields, armatures, bearings, brush holders or commutators; tests starters for insulation breakdown, open shorts and wrong connections in windings; makes calculations to determine order of winding, size of wire, span, number of coils, number of turns per coil and manner of connection for use in winding and rewinding armatures; overhauls and repairs complex motors; replaces, repairs or rebuilds motor parts as required.
  • Selects, orders and checks delivered materials for compliance with specifications; advises superiors regarding electrical matters; oversees and instructs electrical apprentices and manual workers; keeps records and prepares reports. Works with consultants, engineers and suppliers on designs, troubleshooting system or equipment and system upgrades.
