About The Position

Under occasional supervision, performs electrical installations, maintenance and repairs in schools, ensuring compliance with applicable codes, specifications, schedules and standards.

Requirements

Must be physically able to operate a variety of machines and equipment ,including a two-way radio, vehicle, hand and power tools, etc.
Must be able to exert up to twenty pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
Physical demands are in excess of those of sedentary work; work involves driving, walking or standing for periods of time, stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling, climbing, etc., and performing manual tasks.
Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of up to 100 pounds and work at heights of 25 - 90 feet.
Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable functional, structural or compositional characteristics (whether similar to or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people or things.
Requires the ability of speaking and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information.
Includes giving assignments and/or directions to co-workers or assistants and receiving assignments and/or direction from supervisor.
Requires the ability to read a variety of codes, policies and procedures, equipment manuals, specifications, blueprints, etc.
Requires the ability to prepare daily reports, logs, etc., with proper format, punctuation, spelling and grammar, using all parts of speech.

Requires the ability to apply rational systems to solve practical problems, and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists, and to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic or schedule form.

Must be adaptable to performing under stress when confronted with emergency situations or tight deadlines.
The worker may be subject to danger or risk to a moderate degree.
Requires a vocational diploma supplemented by six to nine years of experience in electrical repair, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Must possess a valid state driver's license.
Has thorough knowledge of the methods, procedures and policies of the Maintenance Services Department as they pertain to the performance of duties of the Electrician Helper.
Is knowledgeable in the codes, laws, ordinances, standards and regulations pertaining to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position.
Is able to help ensure departmental compliance with all laws and regulations through effective leadership.
Has knowledge of the organization of the department and of related departments and agencies.

Responsibilities

Diagnoses electrical problems, and performs electrical installations, maintenance and repairs.
Duties include, but are not limited to, repairing malfunctions, exposed wires, etc.; replacing wires and parts; restoring power to buildings; installing lights, switches, receptacles, transformers, installing computer circuits; maintaining stadium lighting; and maintaining ventilation systems.
Performs duties in accordance with applicable codes, specifications, standards and schedules.
Assists with obtaining prices for and ordering supplies required for projects.
Assembles scaffolding up to 30 feet.
Receives, reviews, prepares and/or submits various records and reports ,including work orders, blueprints, specifications, accident reports, warehouse requests, etc.
Operates and maintains a variety of equipment, such as a two-way radio, vehicle, air lift, sky hawk, ditch witch, back hoe, truck, auger, hydraulic bender, power tools, hand tools, diagnostic tools, etc.
Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals, such as the immediate supervisor, co-workers, District administrators and staff, students, contractors, utility company personnel, sales representatives, etc.
Provides assistance to other trades employees as required.
Inspects work in progress and after completion for compliance with specifications and codes.
Works with architects and engineers as requested to design new electrical installations.
Performs related duties as required.
