About The Position
The position involves assisting skilled craftspersons by performing supportive duties under immediate supervision. This entry-level role is designed for individuals looking to gain hands-on experience in the electrical field, where they will learn to interpret technical drawings, sketches, and plans to determine the best work procedures and tools needed for troubleshooting and repairs. As part of the job, the individual will assist skilled craftsmen in measuring, cutting, bending, threading, assembling, and installing electrical conduits. They will also be involved in welding supports, installing cable and duct banks, and making terminations. The position includes assisting with the installation of control and distribution apparatus, ensuring that all components are securely fastened in place. Additionally, the role involves testing and starting up systems to ensure electrical compatibility and safety, as well as observing the functioning of installed equipment to identify hazards and necessary adjustments. The job requires physical activity, including pulling wire through conduits, connecting wiring to lighting fixtures and power equipment, and working with both high and low voltage systems. The individual will also assist in disassembling and repairing defective electrical equipment or systems. Learning to operate various electrical and mechanical hand tools, as well as power, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical tools, is a key component of the role.
