About The Position

To perform journeyman-level installation and maintenance of industrial and domestic electrical systems, equipment and devices; perform related work. This position is not eligible for new visa sponsorship at this time. Candidates who already hold valid U.S. work authorization may be considered.

Requirements

  • Must be a licensed Journeyman Electrician in accordance with Idaho Code, Title 54, Chapter 10.
  • National electrical code.
  • Electrical safety practices.
  • Installing, operating, repairing, and maintaining industrial electrical systems and equipment including conductor size for loads, amps, and voltage; using specialized electrical testing equipment.
  • Interpreting industrial-type electrical circuit diagrams and blueprints.
  • Using and maintaining hand and power tools normally used in electrical and electronics equipment repair.
  • Positions located on the Pocatello of ISU campus require the ability to demonstrate successful completion of both a physical exam, including cardiopulmonary function testing and chest x-ray, and a respirator fit test.
  • These positions at ISU require a valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Installs, tests, and repairs secondary high voltage building panels and disconnects.
  • Calculates electrical equipment and system requirements.
  • Installs conduit, conductors, junction boxes, disconnects, receptacles, switches, and light systems.
  • Repairs motors, starters, pumps, and electrical aspects of chillers, boilers, fans, and related heating and cooling equipment.
  • Tests safety equipment, exit and emergency lighting.
  • Replaces ballast's.
  • Installs and repairs coax cables for computer systems, microprocessors, data communications devices, and similar electronic systems.
  • Inspects electrical installations insuring work is completed in accordance with applicable electrical codes.
  • Reads and follows electrical blueprints, circuit diagrams, and schematics.
  • Uses specialized testing equipment such as ohmmeters, VTVM, VOM, ampmeter, and Megger.
  • Conducts electrical preventive maintenance including inspection, testing, cleaning, and lubricating equipment and systems.
  • Completes work orders and keeps track of maintenance logs.
  • Maintains and reviews catalog and product bulletins for equipment improvements.
  • Develops specifications and prepares requisitions for equipment and supplies.
  • Estimates time and materials for jobs.
  • Supervises and trains others in the installation and repair of electrical systems.
  • Assures quality control standards are met for electrical services.
  • Assists other maintenance and crafts staff performing their duties.
  • Responds to emergency call-back.
