This classification is located in various departments throughout the City of Oklahoma City. This posting will be used to fill a current vacancy in the Facility Management Division of the General Services Department within the City of Oklahoma City and is under the general direction of an immediate supervisor. However, an eligibility list will be established or supplemented for filling future vacancies, including vacancies in other departments, per provisions of the AFSCME collective bargaining agreement. Journeyman level skills and knowledge are required prior to assuming the duties of the position. Essential job functions include: maintenance and repair of various electrical systems; inspection and testing of facilities and equipment; cleaning and repair and/or replacement of dirty or worn parts; tracing and repairing electrical malfunctions; and installing new wiring, equipment, controls, lights, etc. Included in the Electrician's tasks are planning for the most feasible installations, compilation and computation of cost estimates, and possibly, preparing sketches indicating proposed improvements. The Electrician may also be required to supervise and direct the work of other workers. Supervision received is of a limited nature and the employee in this classification must assume responsibility for work performed. Due to direct occupational health, safety and environmental concerns associated with performing both routine and non-routine operations, maintenance, and production tasks, Electrician is a safety sensitive classification. In these regards, current and prospective employees are required to meet and maintain specific physical standards and guidelines.
