In this essential role, you will be responsible for maintaining the safety, reliability, and operational readiness of our institution's electrical systems. This position performs skilled journey-level work involving the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of a wide variety of electrical equipment and infrastructure. You'll work on systems such as lighting, power distribution, motors, control panels, alarms, and specialized facility equipment, ensuring all electrical services meet security, safety, and operational standards. Your day-to-day duties will include diagnosing electrical problems, inspecting systems for hazards, planning and laying out wiring and conduit installations, and interpreting technical drawings and blueprints. You will maintain accurate records of repairs, maintenance activities, and materials used, while assisting with the coordination of electrical projects and preventive maintenance schedules. In addition to your technical responsibilities, you will coordinate, instruct, and train skilled, semiskilled, and unskilled Adults in Custody (AICs) in the operation, maintenance, and repair of physical plant systems, equipment, and building structures within the correctional institution. You will provide on-the-job guidance to support skill development while ensuring work is performed safely and efficiently. This position also includes responsibility for oversight and review of electrical installations prior to final inspection by the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ), ensuring compliance with applicable codes and institutional standards. By combining hands-on technical expertise with mentorship and quality control responsibilities, this role plays a critical part in maintaining facility operations and supporting the rehabilitation and workforce readiness of AICs.
