This position is responsible for the following: Other duties may be assigned. Perform electrical repair and maintenance such as assemble, install, test, or maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, or fixtures for ships, barges, equipment and facilities. May repair and install telephone systems. Troubleshoot and repair electrical components, systems, and equipment. Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, or components, using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem. Advise supervision and/or Safety Department on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous. Determine the appropriate method and required equipment required for proper electrical repair. May be required to install conduits, run wire, and terminating. Place conduit, pipes, or tubing, inside designated partitions, walls, or other concealed areas, and pull insulated wires or cables through the conduit to complete circuits between boxes. May train workers to install, maintain, or repair electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures when appropriate. Prepare sketches or follow blueprints to determine the location of wiring or equipment and to ensure conformance to building and safety codes. Able to operate shipboard switchgear. May assist during emergencies by operating floodlights or generators, placing flares, or driving needed vehicles.
