About The Position

This position requires onsite support at the Duane Arnold Energy Center, initially remote but with the potential to transition to a hybrid work arrangement (three days in-office, two days remote). The role offers the opportunity to work and lead in a project team environment, focusing on the design, modification, and upgrade of new and existing power plant electrical systems. Under the direction of the Electrical Project Lead, the designer will collaborate with multi-disciplined engineering and design project teams to develop various electrical diagrams, cable schedules, and grounding layouts. Responsibilities include producing electrical wiring drawings, reviewing and incorporating vendor drawings, and assisting in field walkdowns and data gathering at client facilities. The role requires the ability to be badged for unescorted access to a nuclear station. Sargent & Lundy's Nuclear Power Group is dedicated to clean, carbon-free energy, working on projects like small modular reactors (SMRs), advanced reactor technology (ART), life extensions, digital modernization, and international new-builds.

Requirements

An Associate's Degree in drafting, or a high school diploma and equivalent technical design experience
Five or more years of detailed wiring design experience in the development of single-line, and relay and metering diagrams, including medium-voltage and 480V systems
Experience in the review of electrical layout drawings involving electrical equipment outlines and interface points
Familiarity with digital control systems
The ability to produce wiring diagrams and schematics for installers and electricians
The ability to assist engineers with initial design requirements
The ability to conceptualize plans and details to accurately convey wiring termination requirements
Extensive Microstation and/or AutoCAD design experience on power plants or large facility projects
A thorough understanding of drafting and design practices and theories
The ability to interface and communicate with engineering and design teams of other disciplines in the power plant design process
Capable of being badged for unescorted access to a nuclear station
Must not require sponsorship for work authorization in the U.S. for this position

Responsibilities

Work and lead others in a project team environment in the design, modification, and/or upgrade of new and existing power plant electrical systems
Work with multi-disciplined engineering and design project teams in the development of single-line diagrams, relay and metering diagrams, AC and DC schematic diagrams, synchronizing diagrams, point to point wiring diagrams, cable schedules, and grounding layouts
Produce electrical wiring drawings
Review and incorporate vendor drawings into the overall project design
Accompany and assist in field walkdowns and data gathering at client facilities
Produce wiring diagrams and schematics for installers and electricians
Assist engineers with initial design requirements
Conceptualize plans and details to accurately convey wiring termination requirements
