Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalence.
• 1 to 3 years of experience as a flux core arc welder.
• Working knowledge of materials, methods, and appropriate work processes for fitting and welding.
• Knowledge of ship terminology, welding symbols, safety, OSHA, and ABS regulations.
• Experience with gouging, mirror welding, MIG, and stick welding; familiarity with carbon, stainless steel, and aluminum welding.
• Ability to read and comprehend written, oral, or diagram forms or plans.
• Ability to read and understand blueprints.
• Knowledge of safe operation and use of hand and power tools.
• Ability to perform basic mathematical operations.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with ABS American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) welding tests.

Responsibilities

• Weld components in various positions including flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead.
• Fit, tack, and weld component parts in position, ensuring adherence to specifications.
• Examine welds for bead size and other specifications.
• Inspect grooves, angles, or gap allowances using precision measuring instruments.
• Lay out, position, align, and secure parts according to specifications.
• Set up welding equipment and perform welding using various techniques and materials.
• Produce high-quality welds, including water-tight penetrations with steel, stainless, and aluminum.
• Monitor the working environment for compliance with safety and quality regulations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
