About The Position

This is your opportunity to join a team performing testing on one of the most technologically advanced and highest priority assets for our United States Navy - The Ballistic Missile Submarine Class. Your ability to contribute and assist this team will be built from your past experience combined with our building block training modules. The Quonset Point Test department, D972, is hiring electrical technicians to perform acceptance testing in support of Virginia and Columbia class submarine construction. This work will be performed both in the shop and onboard submarines under construction. Technicians are trained and required to obtain “electrical test director” qualification. This position is located at the Quonset Point facility in North Kingstown, RI.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent OR 2+ years of related technical experience
  • Minimum 1 year of electrical trade and/or electronic theory experience
  • Able to work in confined spaces and in areas that are not climate controlled
  • Individuals will be required to possess their own basic hand tools
  • Available to work all shifts
  • Able to obtain and maintain a security clearance through the Department of Defense
  • Basic math skills including percentages, decimals and division
  • Basic understanding of Ohms Law
  • Competency in understanding and following procedures
  • Willingness to learn new processes, techniques, and exposure to unique equipment designs
  • Strong communication, reading comprehension, computer and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a collaborative and team environment and meet organizational goals

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years of experience in a relevant electrical occupation
  • Vocational, Technical and Community Colleges or Apprentice programs
  • Prior testing and/or military experience
  • Troubleshooting experience
  • Familiarity with procedures and electrical drawings
  • Ability to communicate and understand technical language

Responsibilities

  • Use of electrical test equipment such as volt/ohm/multi-function meters, power supplies, light sources, etc.
  • Continuity checks of copper and fiber optic cabling
  • Insulation resistance & megger testing
  • Ground verification
  • Tag out of electrical equipment
  • Work with energized and de-energized circuits
  • Inspection of cable marking, termination and installation
  • Recording of data in accordance with technical work documents
  • Troubleshooting of test failures, followed by authoring of resolutions for Trades
  • Work individually or as part of a team
  • Work in as well as promote a safety conscious environment
