Obsidian Solutions Group is seeking a hands-on, resourceful Electrical Technician to support the development, integration, and testing of the SensXR system—a modular, multi-threat detection platform. This role blends traditional electronics assembly with PCB design support, part selection, and prototyping. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working independently to move from schematic capture and PCB layout (KiCad/SPICE) through ordering, assembling, testing, and troubleshooting custom PCBs and subsystems. While this position is structured as a technician role, success requires an individual who can take initiative, operate with minimal supervision, and bring creative, R&D-focused problem solving. This technician will directly influence prototype readiness and reliability, ensuring SensXR meets demanding performance standards for DoD CBRNE applications.

  • Identify, research, and evaluate electronic components using vendor catalogs (e.g., Digi-Key, Mouser).
  • Read datasheets to confirm specifications, pinouts, and integration requirements.
  • Maintain part libraries and BOMs, proposing alternatives when supply constraints occur.
  • Assist with schematic capture and PCB layout using KiCad and SPICE-based tools, developing workable designs with minimal supervision.
  • Prepare fabrication and assembly files for outside PCB manufacturing services, ensuring compliance with engineering standards.
  • Coordinate orders for bare boards and/or assembled PCBs through contract manufacturers, monitoring quality and delivery timelines.
  • Assemble, solder, and rework prototype PCBs and subsystems.
  • Perform unit tests, quality control, and performance benchmarking of custom electronics.
  • Troubleshoot independently using multimeters, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers, escalating only when needed.
  • Wire and integrate PCBs, sensors, and RF modules into SensXR subsystems.
  • Address ruggedization, EMI/EMC considerations, and field reliability requirements.
  • Support firmware bring-up and perform basic coding/debugging in Arduino IDE, working independently where required.
  • Build and adapt prototypes, cable assemblies, and enclosures.
  • Support lab and field tests of SensXR hardware, capturing logs and diagnostic data.
  • Provide structured feedback for iterative design improvements and system reliability.
  • Maintain accurate build/test documentation aligned with ISO 9001 processes.
  • Contribute to design reviews, documenting revisions and part traceability.
  • Ensure all assemblies meet workmanship standards (IPC/WHMA-A-620 preferred).
  • Associate degree in Electronics Technology, Mechatronics, or equivalent military/technical training.
  • 3+ years of hands-on electronics assembly, integration, and testing experience.
  • Experience with PCB design tools (KiCad preferred) and basic circuit simulation (SPICE).
  • Skilled in soldering, wiring, and crimping to industry standards.
  • Familiarity with Arduino IDE or similar environments for prototyping.
  • Ability to read/interpret electrical schematics and component datasheets.
  • Proficiency with test instruments (multimeter, oscilloscope, logic analyzer).
  • Ability to work independently, problem-solve, and deliver results with limited supervision.
  • Experience taking PCB designs from schematic through fabrication and validation.
  • Background with sensor integration (gas, RF, GPS, IMU, etc.).
  • Exposure to ruggedized/military electronics or wearable/AR-integrated systems.
  • IPC/WHMA-A-620, IPC-A-610, or equivalent soldering/assembly certification.
  • Creative, R&D-oriented problem solver with curiosity to explore new approaches.
