About The Position

Grafton Sciences is building physical superintelligence — systems that can experiment, reason, and make discoveries in the real world. We’re designing autonomous laboratories that learn through interaction, not imitation — starting with disease and energy. Backed by $42.5 million from ARPA-H, our mission is to build the first system capable of true scientific discovery. If you want to help invent the future of discovery itself, this is the place. The Electrical / Systems Integration Engineer is responsible for designing, assembling, and maintaining the electrical and sensory infrastructure that connects mechanical, computational, and AI components. This role ensures data integrity, signal reliability, and operational safety across the autonomous laboratory. The engineer will define standards for power, communication, and sensing systems to achieve long-term uptime and precision.

Requirements

  • BS/MS in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field.
  • 3 to 7+ years designing or integrating electromechanical or robotic systems. Demonstration of excellence is more critical than years of experience.
  • Skilled with embedded firmware, low-noise analog, PLC/ROS IO, and instrumentation.
  • Competence in PCB design, signal integrity, and diagnostic tooling.
  • A temperament suited to early-stage environments: relentless follow-through, intellectual curiosity, and calm in ambiguity.
  • Candidates must demonstrate clear evidence of systems-level thinking and executional excellence; formal technical degrees do not impact evaluation.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in robotics, industrial automation, or scientific-instrumentation design.
  • Prior work with sensor fusion, motion control, or safety-critical systems is valuable.

Responsibilities

  • Design and integrate wiring harnesses, DAQ boards, and power-distribution systems.
  • Connect sensors, cameras, and interlocks into robotic workcells.
  • Develop automated test and calibration procedures for reliability.
  • Collaborate with software teams to define signal-processing and timing interfaces.
  • Establish safety, grounding, and redundancy standards.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary commensurate with experience, plus performance-based incentives and meaningful equity participation.
