We give our guests the Medallion Class experience others simply can’t. The Love Boat promises something for everyone. We are looking to hire a Superintendent, Electrical at Princess. The Superintendent, Electrical at Princess is responsible for overseeing the planning, maintenance, and lifecycle management of electrical systems across 4–6 assigned ships. This includes managing CAPEX and OPEX budgets, overseeing vendor services, and ensuring compliance with safety, regulatory, and classification standards. The role contributes to both short- and long-term asset planning, including dry dock preparation, system upgrades, and integration of emerging technologies. Working closely with shipboard Chief Electrical Officer, Supply Chain, Hotel Refurbishment, and cross-functional departments, the Superintendent ensures timely execution of projects and alignment with HESS principles. They provide technical guidance, manage service agreements, and delegate operational tasks to technical coordinators or ship personnel as appropriate. The position requires regular ship visits to assess system performance, validate maintenance practices, and support decision-making for fleetwide initiatives. Candidates should have at least five years of licensed shipboard experience, ideally as a Chief or 1st Electrical Officer on diesel-electric cruise vessels. A degree in electrical engineering or equivalent maritime experience, along with strong project management, communication, and analytical skills, is essential. Familiarity with AMOS, Microsoft 365, and data analytics tools is preferred. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Management, or equivalent maritime qualifications.
  • Valid certification or license supporting electrical competency at sea, such as Chief Electrical Officer or 1st Electrical Officer credentials.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of international electrical codes and maritime regulatory standards (e.g., IEC norms, flag state, and classification society requirements).
  • Certification or documented training in high-voltage systems and safety protocols.
  • Proficiency in the use of Planned Maintenance Systems (e.g., AMOS) for electrical asset management.
  • Familiarity with HESS (Health, Environment, Safety, and Security) principles and their application to electrical systems.
  • Ability to travel internationally and conduct shipboard inspections as required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 applications.
  • Proven experience leading the maintenance and lifecycle planning of electrical systems on large passenger vessels or equivalent maritime environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex capital projects involving electrical upgrades, vendor coordination, and budget oversight.
  • Experience supporting dry dock planning and execution, including integration of electrical systems in guest and crew areas.
  • Hands-on knowledge of power distribution systems, switchboards, transformers, and hotel and navigation electrical systems.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams including Supply Chain, Hotel Refurbishment, and Fleet Governance.
  • Familiarity with managing service agreements and coordinating with internal and external subject matter experts.
  • Experience implementing preventative maintenance strategies and responding to system failures or incidents.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret technical documentation, vendor specifications, and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience contributing to strategic planning and budget forecasting for electrical assets.
  • Proven ability to support shipboard teams and influence decision-making without direct authority.

Responsibilities

  • Electrical Asset Lifecycle Management: The Superintendent, Electrical is accountable for the full lifecycle oversight of electrical systems across 4–6 assigned vessels. This includes evaluating asset condition, managing replacements, and ensuring alignment with long-term fleet strategies. They develop and maintain multi-year upgrade roadmaps, incorporating vendor input and internal assessments. The role requires proactive identification of obsolescence risks and opportunities for modernization. Partnering with the Asset Management Group ensures consistency in standards and practices across the Princess. The Superintendent integrates environmental considerations and emerging technologies into asset planning. They assess the feasibility of extending asset life through maintenance or upgrades. Collaboration with internal and external stakeholders ensures that electrical systems meet operational and strategic needs. The role also involves contributing to the development of global training content related to electrical systems. They provide technical input to support compliance with international electrical codes and regulatory frameworks. All planning activities are documented and aligned with Gorporate Governance and HESS principles.
  • Project Execution and Capital Expenditure: This role leads the execution of assigned capital projects related to electrical systems, from concept through completion. The Superintendent creates and oversees the detailed specifications, scopes of work, and cost estimates for upgrades and modifications. They manage vendor engagement, ensuring timely delivery of services and materials in accordance with project timelines, including those related to Corporate and brand specific initiatives. Coordination with Corporate functions like Supply Chain and Global Sourcing is essential to secure competitive pricing and logistical efficiency. The Superintendent ensures that all project activities comply with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards. They monitor progress against budget and schedule, adjusting plans as needed to mitigate risks. The role includes oversight of procurement, delivery, and installation of electrical equipment. They validate that all installations meet classification society and flag state requirements. The Superintendent ensures that project documentation is complete and accessible for future reference. They also support the approval process for fleetwide upgrades by engaging relevant internal and external stakeholders. Lessons learned from completed projects are captured and shared to inform future initiatives.
  • Operational Support and Shipboard Coordination: The Superintendent serves as the primary point of contact for shipboard teams regarding electrical systems. They provide technical guidance to Chief Electrical Officer and ensure alignment with fleet standards. Regular ship visits are conducted to assess system performance, support troubleshooting, and verify maintenance practices. The role includes facilitating communication between shipboard personnel and shoreside departments. They delegate routine tasks to technical coordinators or onboard teams based on urgency and complexity. The Superintendent ensures that shipboard teams have access to necessary documentation, tools, and spare parts. They manage the implementation of service agreements for specialized systems, such as nautical and hotel-related electrical equipment. The role requires responsiveness to emergent issues, coordinating vendor support when needed. They promote a culture of safety and compliance through mentorship and oversight. The Superintendent is also a key contributor to the development of shipboard procedures and best practices. Their presence onboard reinforces accountability and fosters collaboration across departments.
  • Preventative Maintenance and Compliance Oversight: This accountability area focuses on ensuring that all electrical systems are maintained in accordance with regulatory and company standards. The Superintendent oversees the accuracy and completeness of the Planned Maintenance System (PMS) for assigned assets. They ensure that maintenance intervals, procedures, and spare parts inventories are up to date and aligned with manufacturer recommendations. The role includes monitoring compliance with high-voltage safety protocols and licensing requirements. They collaborate with CSMART and other training entities to support crew certification and readiness. The Superintendent ensures that all electrical work adheres to HESS policies and environmental protection standards. They review incident reports and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence. The role includes supporting audits and inspections by internal and external authorities. They maintain awareness of changes in international electrical regulations and update practices accordingly. The Superintendent ensures that documentation is audit-ready and reflects the current state of each system. They also contribute to the development of fleetwide compliance strategies.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration and Strategic Input: The Superintendent plays a key role in aligning electrical operations with broader fleet and corporate objectives. They collaborate with departments such as Hotel Refurbishment, Deck & Technical, and Fleet Governance to support integrated planning. The role includes providing input on interior design projects involving electrical components. They contribute to strategic discussions on fleetwide initiatives, offering insights on feasibility and resource requirements. The Superintendent supports the development of annual and multi-year budget forecasts for both operational and capital expenditures. They participate in vendor evaluations and market research to identify innovative solutions. The role includes representing the electrical function in cross-brand forums and working groups. They ensure that electrical considerations are incorporated into broader asset strategies. The Superintendent fosters alignment between shipboard and shoreside teams through consistent communication. They support knowledge sharing across the fleet to promote standardization and continuous improvement. Their strategic input helps shape the future direction of electrical systems and infrastructure.
