About The Position

The Electrical Substation & Maintenance Field Services Technician supports the inspection, maintenance, testing, and repair of electrical substations and related power distribution equipment. This role is intended for technicians with 1–2 years of field experience who are building hands-on skills in substation environments while working under the guidance of senior technicians and engineers. The position requires regular travel to job sites and strict adherence to safety and quality standards.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade school training preferred
  • 1–2 years of experience in electrical field services, substations, power distribution, or industrial electrical work
  • Basic understanding of electrical theory and power systems
  • Ability to read and interpret one-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, and basic schematics
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in or around electrical substations or utility facilities
  • Familiarity with test equipment such as multimeters, megohmmeters, and grounding testers
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
  • CPR/First Aid certification

Responsibilities

  • Assist with routine and corrective maintenance of electrical substations, including breakers, switches, transformers, relays, and buss work
  • Perform visual inspections, basic troubleshooting, and condition assessments of substation equipment
  • Support switching operations under direction of qualified personnel
  • Assist with installation, removal, and replacement of electrical equipment and components
  • Perform basic electrical testing such as insulation resistance, continuity, grounding checks, and functional tests
  • Support preventive maintenance programs and scheduled outages
  • Assist senior technicians with relay testing, breaker timing, and functional checks
  • Document field work, test results, and observations using company forms and digital tools
  • Identify and report abnormal conditions, safety concerns, or equipment deficiencies
  • Follow all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and client safety requirements
  • Properly use PPE, tools, and testing equipment
  • Participate in job safety briefings, tailboards, and lockout/tagout procedures
  • Maintain a clean and organized work site
  • Work closely with senior technicians, supervisors, and engineers in the field
  • Communicate job status, issues, and findings clearly and professionally
  • Represent the company in a professional manner with clients and site personnel
