About The Position

IMEG is hiring an Electrical Project Engineer in Billings, MT, to lead design efforts as a project manager or lead engineer for low to moderate complexity projects while collaborating with senior staff on larger, high complexity work. In this role, you’ll work closely with a team of engineers and consultants to provide engineering solutions and advice to clients and deliver code-compliant electrical systems for buildings, including analysis, design, and implementation oversight. You will also be expected to work within the project’s monetary budget and train, mentor, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent required
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License required
  • 2 years of experience minimum required, 4 preferred, in the building design consulting industry
  • Proficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specifications
  • Strong technical and analytical skills including knowledge of principles relating to circuit theory, electromagnetism, power systems, and electronics as they relate to electrical systems design for buildings
  • Proficient with industry standard engineering software and tools including lighting photometric calculation software such as AGI, Elum Tools, Visual Lighting, or other; power system analysis and design software such as SKM/PTW, Easy Power, or other; and energy compliance software such as ComCheck. Proficient with Adobe or Bluebeam Revu
  • Knowledge of Illumination Engineering Society (IES) Standards
  • Proficient with the use of reference material resources such as NFPA Link, TechStreet, MadCAD, and Facility Guideline Institution (FGI)
  • Knowledge of Master Specification editing and software such as eSPECS, BIM software, and CTC Revit Add In Tools; Proficiency of Smart Engineering Design Assist (SET) Tools within Revit for electrical calculations, coordination, properties, etc.
  • Ability to train and mentor less experienced staff
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to travel up to 10% with occasional overnight stays

Responsibilities

  • Lead design efforts for the analysis of electrical systems, utilizing engineering software and tools to create detailed designs, specifications, and calculations according to code requirements and IMEG standards
  • Interact with clients to understand needs, gather requirements, and communicate technical information effectively while building and maintaining client relationships
  • Lead project planning, budgeting, and scheduling tasks to meet project deadlines and objectives
  • Document design decisions and client instructions while monitoring project design progress as related to percent complete and fee expended
  • Analyze engineering problems and propose innovative solutions in collaboration with senior engineers and consultants
  • Provide in-process design reviews of electrical system design, calculations, and specifications and implement IMEG quality control processes
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices; contribute to research, development, and innovation efforts within IMEG
  • Prioritize safety in all aspects of engineering work; identify and mitigate potential safety risks associated with electrical systems
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including other engineers, architects, and project managers, to deliver integrated solutions that meet project goals
  • Identify potential project problems and seek advice from the Project Manager
  • Oversee projects through bidding and construction administration phase
