The EPMS (Electrical Power Monitoring System) Technician is responsible for the successful integration, configuration, and support of electrical power monitoring solutions within industrial and commercial environments. This role requires knowledge of communication protocols such as Modbus TCP/IP, BACnet IP, and IEC 61850, as well as hands-on experience with electrical systems, network infrastructure, and automation platforms.

  • Commission EPMS solutions, ensuring seamless integration with electrical distribution and monitoring equipment.
  • Develop and configure communication interfaces using Modbus TCP/IP, BACnet IP, and IEC 61850 protocols to enable data exchange between devices, systems, and enterprise applications.
  • Metering configuration and testing; Multifunction PMs, Power Quality Meters, Sub-Metering and Branch Circuit Monitoring. Integration of Protective Relays, Breaker Monitoring, UPS, ATS, Generator Monitoring.
  • Work with Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) meters and other industry-standard devices.
  • Collaborate with project managers, electrical engineers, and IT professionals to gather requirements, define integration strategies, and deliver solutions on schedule.
  • Troubleshoot communication issues, diagnose network problems, and provide technical support during installation and post-commissioning phases.
  • Create and maintain project documentation, including system architecture diagrams, network topologies, configuration files, and test procedures.
  • Conduct training sessions for end-users and operations staff on EPMS functionalities and best practices.
  • Stay updated on industry standards, emerging technologies, and protocol updates relevant to EPMS and building automation systems.
  • Associate degree or technical certification in Electrical Engineering Technology, Instrumentation, or a related field (or equivalent hands-on experience).
  • Solid understanding of three-phase power systems, electrical distribution, and metering principles.
  • Experience with Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) or equivalent intelligent electronic devices (IEDs).
  • Familiarity with IEC 61850, Modbus, DNP3, or other industrial communication protocols.
  • Ability to read and interpret one-line diagrams and control schematics.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with leading EPMS software platforms (e.g., Schneider Electric, Siemens, ABB, Eaton).
  • Experience with Ignition SCADA.
  • Certification in industrial automation, networking, or related fields.
  • Experience with scripting or programming for device integration (e.g., Python, IEC 61131-3 languages).
  • Familiarity with additional protocols such as DNP3, OPC UA, or SNMP.
